Over the weekend, Arsenal recorded a 1-1 draw with West Brom. This result took Arsenal to the top of the premier league table. The gooners failed to extend thier record of 13 consecutive away victories and dropped thier first points of the season since the opening loss to Aston Villa. However, as gooners of steel, there are some lessons to be learnt  from that game

1. Giroud must improve

Oliver Giroud has been in great form this season scoring four goal in seven premier league games. His link up play, aggression on the pitch and finishing has improved from last season, but the bitter truth is that he needs to improve. I thought that he should have done better with the through ball Jack Wilshere gave him. With rumors flying around about bids for Jackson Martinez and Karim Benzema, Oliver has to work even harder.

2. Santi, where are you?

during the first half, West Brom were comfortable because Arsenal didn’t step up to gear two, we were at the same level and didn’t have any player that would run at the Baggies defence, instead we were casual and passed the ball without purpose. Wilshere would have been the direct player in the team but had a poor first half and was fouled repeatedly. With the introduction of Tomas Rosicky, the gooner’s game changed and it was no surprise that 4 minutes after his introduction, the equalizer came. This made me ask myself, where is Santi Carzola? He would have been the perfect key to unlock the West Brom steady defence. Can’t wait for the international break to be over so that we can see Saint Santi back on the field

3. We missed our wide men

Steve Clarke’s game plan worled effectively. He packed the midfield and trangled Arsenal offensive midfiled players. Ozil, Ramsey and Wilshere did not have enough space to play. Mulumbu, Yacob, Sessegnon, Amalfitano and Berahino made sure that all spaces in the middle were covered. With such congested midfield, the next option would have been to spread the ball and utilize the wide men, but none of our notable wide men were available, Walcott, Podolski, Oxlade Chamberlain and Carzola are on the injury table. If they were present, then West Brom have been stretched further and maybe it would have been 3 points instead of one.

4. Wenger has a hard choice to make

In Arsene’s 17 years in charge of the gooners, I think he would have to make one of the hardest choices. Arsenal has one of the best Midfield players in europe, Flamini, Arteta, Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, Rosicky, Ozil, Carzola, Chamberlain and when they are all fit, it would be a real issue on who to put on the bench, who to play and who to play off postion. Ramsey has been in lethal form this season, scoring 8 goals, he has done so by playing as a box to box midfielder, but with Arsene preferring the defensive combination of Arteta and Flamini, Rambo has been pushed to the wings. Same story for Carzola, Wilshere  and Ozil. Good problem for Wenger?

5. Thumps up Arsene

Last week, the mediawas agog with the Jack Wilshere smoking sagaand everyone criticized the England international despite the fact that he denied he was a smokerand claimed it was just a prank. He was a villain, however, by sunday evening, he was Arsenal’s hero. He played 90 minutes, has a great second half and scored the equalizer. Imagine if Wenger had left him on the bench, the media would have termed it as a punishment from the boss. Wenger must have envisaged this situation and decided to start Wilshere when he had options like Gnabry and Rosicky. The Boss handled it well, cuddles Arsene
