Wenger did not get his best birthday gift as hiss young guns lost 1-2 to a quality Borussia Dortmund side. It was the first time the gooners had lost in 12 games and despite a spirited second half performance, Dortmund ran away winners.
Arsene made two changes to the side that started against Norwich. Ramsey came in for Flamini and Rosicky started in place of Carzola. The game started in frantic fashion as the Germans looked to get the early goal as Marco Reus tested Szczesny but his shot went over the bar.
However, their efforts were to be rewarded in the 16th minute, Ramsey made an uncharacteristic error and lost the ball to Lewandowski at the edge of the 18 yard box, the Pole fed Mkhitaryan, who made no mistake in putting the ball past the on rushing Arsenal goal keeper.
Dortmund were deservedly on top.
That goal woke up the gooners and they started growing into the game, Ramsey came close in the 31 minute, Rosicky thought that he had score, Weindefeller was beaten but Hummels was there to clear off the line. That was an omen for the Germans, but they did not heed. Ramsey went pass a Dortmund playerwith ease, found Sagna whose cross confused Subotic and Weindefeller, the ball fell kindly to Giroud who slammed the ball into the net with so much anger.
The Emirates erupted.
The second half began and it was all Arsenal, Santi Carzola came in for Jack Wilshere and Dortmund were pegged back. Ozil and Carzola became tormentors-in- chief of Dortmund and suspended coach Jurgen Klopp was apprehensive even from the stands. Carzola had a golden chance, but his shot hit the bar.
When it seemed like the gooners would score the winner, Dortmund had other ideas and against the run of play, the Germans scored. Grobkreutz was left with some much place down the right and he found Lewandowski. The big man did not need to be asked twice, he dispatched the into he net.
the away fans were ecstatic, the gooners were downhearted.
Wenger threw in Bendtner and Gnabry late on to score the equalizer, however it was to late. the gooners had a brilliant second half and at least deserved a point. The gooners would draw consolation from their performance and fancy their chances of qualification.
With Napoli winning away at Marseille, the group of Death should be changed to the group of Hell as all 3 clubs are on 6 points and still have to play each other. For the gooners, a home win over Marseille and at least a draw in Naples and Dortmund should be enough. #coyg
