In Gooner of Steel fashion, we take a look at same of the lessons learnt from our ‘impressive defeat’ to Borussia Dortmund. Arsenal lost for the first time in 12 games and despite the fact that the gooners were utterly disappointed with the defeat, these are some lessons that should be learnt:
1. LET’S GO BACK TO THE EMIRATES
Arsenal experienced a lot of success at Highbury but since coming to the Emirates, the stream seems to have dried up. A lot of reasons have caused this but as I stressed in my article last week, let’s improve he noise at the Emirates.
This picture was the away stand on Tuesday. The Dortmund fans chanted, danced and sang all through the game and even though the Dortmund players were away, they must have felt at home. When it was 1-1 and the gooners were pushing for the goal, Emirates was still quiet; I doubt if it would be the same at the Signal Iduna Park if Dortmund were searching for the winner. We can’t possibly generate so much noise as the cockpit of a Formular One car (nosiest place in the world) but we can make the away fans feel scared and become the 12th man.
2. THE SAINT AND THE WIZARD
In Carzola and Ozil, Arsenal has two of the best creative players in Europe and they showed why in the second half as they were dominating the visitor’s midfield. given more time, they would gel into a unstoppable force, mouthwatering! When the Wizard of Oz joins forces with Saint Santi, you would expect just one thing, annihilation.
3. THIS TEAM IS GOOD
Arsenal fans should not forget that they faced last year champions league finalist and a team that beat champions Bayern Munich this season. Many gooners might be gutted but lets draw confidence from the good second haf display. This team, if kept together, they would reach the heights of the Invincibles and maybe surpass them. The average age of the team that started against Dortmund was just over 26years and when you bear in mind that Rosicky (33), Arteta (31) and Sagna (30) are in the team and the twillight of their careers, this team can dominate for years and years to come.
4 TOO GENTLE TO BE KILLERS
Arsenal had a long period of domination in the second half and it was quite painful to many gooners that they didn’t kill the game off at that time. This level, we should have a more predator instinct. Having such level of dominance and still not scoring is dangerous as the opponent could punish us as the Germans did.
Let’s look forward to the Palace game and get our confidence running again…….#coyg
