In Gooner of Steel fashion, we take a look at some of the lessons and facts from Arsenal’s tremedous victory over Liverpool on Saturday.
1. ARSENAL ARE FLYING WITHOUT WINGS
Imagine seeing a bird in the sky flying without wings, anybody that has that experience would be dumbfounded. The gooners are like that bird, we are practically flying without wings. Arsene’s team have always had quick and technical players that can stretch the opposition: Ljunberg, Pires, Reyes, Hleb and co. The present crop of gooners have started the season in great form and are 5 points clear but to imagine that they are flying without their wing wizards is staggering. Imagine the quality that Walcott, Podolski, Oxlade Chamberlain would add to this team. If the gooners are flying this high without wings, then imagine how high they would fly with wings. They would soar!
2. FORMULA ONE FOOTBALL
I have searched my vocabulary bank to describe how good the Arsenal team played on Saturday but all to no avail. Mesut Ozil has helped me though with his tweet when he described the gooner’s football as FORMULA ONE. There are not many teams in Europe that play such brilliant one touch football in Europe. They are all looking to play little triangles between themselves and are the masters of the one-two technique. On Saturday, the gooners completed 182 passes in the Liverpool third of the pitch while the Reds had just 92 completed passes, when a team makes such high number of passes in the third of a team like Liverpool, that’s impressive.
The picture below shows the working of the first goal by Carzola and after Wilshere’s awesome team goal against Norwich, the team is surely playing Formula One football.
3. I WISH , I WISH
I am a big fan of Rosicky and he was one of the best players on Saturday. His high pressing game, buzzing runs and discipline on the pitch is awesome. If I was met by a dinee to ask for three wishes, the three of them would be that Tomas be 8 years younger. At 33, Tomas has not many years of active football at the highest level and to me that is quite painful because he is playing so well. however, as long as the Czech assassin continues to impress and work on himself, he could be the Ryan Giggs of Arsenal.
4 ARSENAL 4 LIVERPOOL 0
At the end of the game, the scoreboard read Arsenal 2 Liverpool 0. however, according to Gooner of Steel analysis, the gooners actually won the game 4-0. In my previous article, I gave 4 key battles that would happen on saturday. Skrtel vs Giroud; Ramsey vs Gerrard; Carzola and Ozil vs Lucas and MAK vs SAS. I am pleased to announce that the gooners won all four battles. Giroud was magnificent, Carzola scored, Ozil had an assist and Mertesacker and Koscienly were solid. The game might have ended 2-0 but to every reader of Gooner of Steel, it ended 4-0.
4. SANTA CLAUS IN NOVEMBER
This was the update of one of my good friends: Steve Omoh Braimoh ( a true gooner). Obviously Santa Claus (Saint Nicolas) does not play for Arsenal or is Christmas now in November but a certain Saint Santi Carzola does play for the gooners. Some days ago I advised that Carzola would be back to his best. He had a poor game against Palace, showed glimpses against Chelsea and was awesome against Liverpool. For a player that did not have any pre-season at all, he would have to take time to hit peak form and he is surely getting there.
5. MAK ACID NEUTRALIZES SAS ACID
Back in high school, the easiest chemical reaction for me to memorize was he neutralization reaction where an acid is neutralized by a base to form salt and water. On Saturday night, it was chemistry in football. A lot of noise has been made of the potency of Suarez and Sturridge and how both of them would burn Arsenal like an acid. However, Mertesacker and koscienly (MAK) neutralized SAS’ acidic strength with their basic efficiency. I had wanted Vermaelen to start as I thought that Metesacker’s lack of pace would be an opening for either Sturridge or Suarez, but I am so happy that I was proved wrong. So so happy #COYG
