SIX TIT-BITS ABOUT ARSENAL VICOTRY OVER SOUTHAMPTON

LIKE DORTMUND LIKE SOUTHAMPTON

Watching Southampton play against Arsenal was almost like watching Dortmund. They press so high up the pitch and look forward to winning the ball in the opponent’s half. They also keep a very high line in defence. Giroud and Ozil were caught so many times, even Carzola who operates in a deeper position was caught offside. Pochettino  must have watched the Arsenal versus Dortmund video. Arsenal must prepare for similar approaches from other teams. In order to deal with such teams in the future, we must bring our full backs and centre backs into the game and catch their high line off-guard.

POOR MIDFIELD PERFORMANCE

Southampton have two of the best ball winning midfielders in the premier league. David Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin were awesome against Arsenal. The total successful tackles made by the saints were 35 but Wanyama and Schneiderlin accounted for 14 of those tackles, that is almost 50% from just 2 players. The Arsenal midfielders did not help the cause also especially Arteta. The Spaniard is one of the best passers of the ball in the league but could only account for 84% pass completion rate. When you compare that figure to the 94% against Liverpool, 95% at the Signal Iduna Park and 94% against Manchester United, you would agree with me that he was not at his best. I think Mikel had a bad game; expect him to come back.

WELCOME BACK THEO

I have really missed our wide men. Good to see one of them back. The return of Walcott would give us another option in attack . it would help us stretch the opponents and open the centre for us. Most importantly, I think that Ozil plays better with wide men, he would relish putting the ball into their path very often. We saw that in his first game against Sunderland when Theo Walcott squandered 3 chances from Ozil’s passes. Can’t wait for Podolski to be back.

KIERAN IS ON FIRE

Ramsey, Ozil, Giroud, Mertesacker, Koscienly, Flamini are all names that would be called when describing the success of Arsenal’s season thus far but we must not forget the input of a certain Kieran Gibbs. The young Englishman has improved significantly. His positioning, tackling, reading of the game have improved remarkably and he is even getting better. It is true that he has an outside chance of making Roy Hodgson final 23 man squad especially with Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines ahead of him, but if he continues to play constantly, Hodgson would have some thinking to do. It was no surprise when he made Gareth Crook’s Team of the week

ARSENAL FOR EVERYONE

The game saw the club launch its ARSENAL FOR EVERYONE initiative. Gooner of Steel has decided to add his voice to the cause. Arsenal is for everyone, no matter who you are, where you are from or what you do. One thing is common to us all, we are all gooners and love our darling Arsenal so much. The club’s motto is Victoria Concordia Crescent (victory through harmony), we must play our part as supporters and see that our team lifts a trophy this season.

JAMES BOND GOONERS

In recent games, the gooners have been dressing like James Bond with their tight Tuxedos. Arsenal signed a deal with French outfit,  Lanvin, to make the player’s coat that would be made before and after the game. It is so nice to see my darling players looking so nice. Even the teenagers, Akpom, Gnabry and co are joining in the parade. You would wonder if they are going for a football game or a Dinner Party. Anytime, I see them suited up, it makes me want to play for Arsenal. #iamlovingit #sweet. Early signs of a successful season.
