THE UNSETTLED DUST ABOUT THE MARSEILLE GAME

Arsenal took a huge step towards qualification to the round of 16 with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Marseille. It was a game that Arsenal controlled completely, but there are some issues that have come out from the game

A SUPER MIDFIELD PERFORMANCE

In my article about the tit bits of the Southampton win, I described our midfield performance on the day as poor; today I describe them as super, why? We won the ball very well. Anytime Marseille ventured forward, there was an assurance that we would win the ball back. Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere and Rosicky were full of running. The latter 3 interchanged positions often that it was difficult for the French side to deal with.

MY DEAR FLAMINI

After the Marseille game, I checked ny wardrobe and discovered that 90% of my shirts are short sleeves; maybe me and Flamini are alike. Seriously, clubs like every organization have rules that are meant to be obeyed. If the club’s rules states that every player must wear sleeves that are the same as the captain of the day, I think that is not too much to Matthieu to obey. The media have flogged this issue, some have reported a fracas that resulted between Arsene and Flamini that Mertesacker had to draw Flamini aside and the quarrel between the Frenchman and the kit man, Vic Akers. Flamini should imitate Giroud, who wears long sleeves, but folds them on the pitch. Trust the cameras to start focusing on the sleeves that Arsenal players wear instead of the fact that we are playing well and are top of the table.

CONTROVERSIAL JOEY

Joey Barton is one player that I like. Not only because of his football skills but because of his controversies. The Englishman was at it again. This time, he decided to ignore the over 57,000 seats and pitch his tent with the 3,000 away fans. It is true that he spent a year on loan with the French outfit but staying with the away fans is quite funny. Good that he didn’t have cause to smile all through the match.

CUT OZIL SOME SLACK

A lot of noise was made about Ozil missed penalty. It was a poor penalty, but it happens. I can write a full notebook of big players that have missed penalties. In the Arsene’s post match press conference after the win over saints, he confirmed that the order of penalty takers is Arteta, Ozil, Giroud; should that change? No. would Ozil take a penalty again if the chance arises? Yes. Arteta missed a lat minute penalty in the 3-3 draw with Fulham last season and is still first choice. Ozil missed a penalty, no qualms.

WHERE ARE THE HATERS?

Liverpool, Dortmund, Manchester United, Southampton and Marseille. These 5 games were described as games of doom. However, the gooners have won 4 out of 5 games, scored7 goals, conceded just one and kept 4 clean sheets. This team has character and incredible mental strength and with this form, they could go all the way. There is stability in the side and everyone knows his job on the pitch. With Chelsea and Manchester City coming up in December, I trust this set of gooners to s how what they are made of: STEEL.

They might have the skill of the Invincibles or the strong individual personalities of the class of 2008, but they cover for each other, work for themselves. That is a quality that is peculiar with this group and I am loving it #COYG

Gooner of Steel wishes PAT RICE quick recovery. My prayers are with you sir.
