Arsenal were put to the sword by a rampant City team, as the Citizens scored 6 goals for the second time at home this season against a top team. Arsene made changes to the side that lost to Napoli, Walcott, Wilshere, Monreal, Sagna came in for the team as the gooners were looking to go 9 points clear off City.
The game started with City looking to get the early goal and got 3 corners in the first 4 minutes, but it was the gooners who had the first clear chance, Wilshere mis-skewed shot on 12 minutes, when he should have done better. However, the citizens got the goal on 14 minutes from a Nasri’s corner. From then on, it was City; Negredo (21’), Nasri (24’) and Toure(27’) went close to doubling the lead. They were to regret missing all those chances as soon to be a father, Walcott got the goal. Ramsey won the ball off Toure, fed Ozil, who gave a good ball to Walcott, goal to the Arsenal.
The away fans were ecstatic, totally against the run of play.
City came back strong and Negredo had a super chance on 34 minute. Five minutes later, he was not to be denied, City were back in the lead going into the break. Sadly for the gooners, Koscienly had to be stretched off on 41 minutes.
The second half began with Arsenal looking to get back into the game again, but gifted a goal to City. Flamini failed to intercept a pass and gave Fernandinho the chance to curl the ball into the net. Giroud went very close on 56 minute and on the 63rd, the gooners got the goal they deserved. Ramsey gave a sumptuous ball to Walcott and the Englishman chipped a very tall Pantilimon. Game on.
Arsenal could not sustain the momentum and gifted Silva a goal on 66 minute. Wilshere had a super shot saved by City’s Romanian keeper. Fernandinho was having a super game and had his shot saved by Szczesny on 84 minute but the Pole could not stop the Brazilian on 83 minute. 5-2 to City and it was getting embarrassing for the gooners.
The Big Friendly German cut back the deficient for the gooners with a diving header in injury time but City were to have their 3 goal margin and scored with a penalty from Yaya Toure after Szczesny had fouled Milner.
PLAYER RATINGS: SZCZESNY 5, MONREAL 4, KOSCIENLY 6.5, MERTESACKER 6.5, SAGNA 6, FLAMINI 4, RAMSEY 6, WILSHERE 4, OZIL 5, WALCOTT 7, GIROUD 5. SUBS: VERMAELEN 5, GNABRY 6, BENDTNER 6
Surely, the extra day’s rest benefitted Manchester City as the gooners seemed heavy legged. The gooners got a rare three goals in the Etihad but were undone by a shambolic defensive display especially from Monreal and Flamini.
It was quite painful that after scoring three goals in a game, we still went to lose the game 6-3. However, the good news is the fact that we have 8 days to rest for the big game against Chelsea.
Arsenal’s fans should not feel too downcast as only 3 points were lost for this game and not 20; and as far as Chelsea and City continue to drop points against the lesser teams and Arsenal wins those games, we are still in the challenge with a big shout. #COYG
