Over the last 48 hours, there have been rumors after rumors about Berbatov making the 2 million pound switch to the Emirates. The Bulgarian has 6 months left on his contract and there is a genuine possibility that the former Tottenham, Manchester United striker could switch to the Emirates.

This story has arisen as there is a mini injury crisis in the striking department; Giroud, Bendtner and Sanogo are injured; Podolski did not fare very well as the lone striker and there is little or no confidence in Park. This means that the Berbatov option is not a very bad one.

Looking at the stats of both Giroud and Berbatov in the Premier League, it would be discovered that both strikers are not too different, they are very similar in almost every aspect. In my write up some days ago, I stated that I believed that Wenger might go for a temporary option in anticipation for a more permanent option in the summer and at 32, Berbatov has not too many years at the top level.

Over the last season, Wenger has set up his team in such a way as to play with a pivot or fulcrum, a big man that the other shorter midfielders can move around. Giroud plays that role very well and he can see with his stats: 3.5 average aerial duels won per game, one of the highest in the league, and he has also done very well with assist and through balls, 5 assist and 0.4 through balls per game, higher than Ozil’s 0.3 figure. Berbatov is also known for his hold up play, ability to draw the opponents to himself and release the other midfielders.

With the below par performance of Podolski as a lone striker. It is clear that if anybody plays as a lone striker in the team, it must be someone who  can do the same job as Giroud does and with the absence of the Frenchman and lord Bendtner, it won’t be a bad idea to have the former Spurs hit man in our ranks even if it is to spite the lily whites.

It might not be the Diego Costa, Lewandowski or Jackson Martinez that we were hoping for and I still doubt if he would have the same commitment levels as Giroud but over the last 5 years, Berbatov has fallen from the world class striker to a normal striker and I think he would want to prove a point with his next move. In all, let’s trust the Boss with his choices. #arseneknows #COYG

Do you agree that Berbatov would be a good buy?
