THIS FACT COULD STOP ARSENAL FROM WINNING THE LEAGUE

Many gooners are still feeling sad over the draw with Southampton. The painful truth is that Arsenal would enter this weekend’s fixture far back as second and when you consider that we are having ‘hellish’ fixtures in February and March. This is not just another draw but two potentially vital points dropped. To all fairness to Southampton, they did their homework very well and maybe deserved the point. There were lot of complains about the late introduction of Podolski, the flat and un-inspiring pairing of Arteta and Flamini and the fact that we conceded just immediately after we went ahead. However, there is one major worry for me as a true gooner and that worry is our FIRST HALF PERFORMANCES THIS SEASON.

I think in the first half Southampton played very well and we didn’t play well. Southampton deserved the lead at half-time……But I don’t complain on the quality of our game in the first half – it was not good enough. We had some problems to get into the pace of the game.- ARSENE WENGER

So what happened to Arsenal in the first half? It is not just this game, but this trend is showing in a good number of games.

In the game yesterday against the Saints, it took Arsenal 44 minutes for the gooners to have their first attempt on goal.

Against Cardiff on New Year Day, it took 13 minutes for us to make our first foray forward, even though it was at Home.

In the game against then bottom side, Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, it was until 35 minutes before we had our first shot.

In the epic Dortmund game, it was 62 minutes before we even knew the colour of Dortmund’s 18 yard box was.

In the loss to United, it was until the 33rd minute that Carzola registered Arsenal’s first attempt.

Against Everton, it was longer, 41 minutes, before we tested Tim Howard in the Emirates.

Against Napoli, it was the 23 minute.

In the drab draw with Chelsea, it was not until the first minute of injury time (45 +1min) of the first half that Rosicky had Arsenal’s first attempt.

In the Giroud- inspired victory over Newcastle, it was in the 9th minute and then we had to wait till the 23 minute, before we had another attack.

It’s almost like in every game we always seem to lack the pace and give the initiative to the opposing team.  We might have many things we feel Wenger should do to the team if we are to win the league but Gooner of Steel feels that the Boss needs to address  this issue of always starting off the blocks in a very shabby manner. As a younger gooner ( since I am still young), I was used to Arsenal killing of teams in the first half especially at home,  and just after the interval, but of recent, we always come to our best in the second half, especially in the final 15 minutes.

When we come against the big teams, such slow start would surely be punished. This is one area that we must correct. #COYG
