ARSENAL 2 LIVERPOOL 1: PLAYER RATINGS

Arsenal advanced to the sixth round of the FA Cup with a hard fought and satisfying victory over Liverpool. In a game that was billed as a revenge mission for the gooners after their drubbing at Anfield a week ago, the gooners made sure that they booked their place in the next round. Goals from the hard working Oxlade-Chamberlain and Podolski were just enough. Despite a penalty from Gerrard cutting the deficit and Arsene’s men having to endure a nerve bitting last 5 minutes, Wenger and his comrades did their job very well.

FABIANSKI: a very superb performance, I think it was the best I have seen him in an Arsenal shirt. Made save after save and commanded his area very well. Made a very save in the first 5 minutes and another awesome save from Suarez. 8.5 MOTM

JENKINSON: going forward, he was not that great, but defensively, he was awesome. Did well when faced with Sterling and helped the team have a very good defensive structure. 7

MERTESACKER: another good display from the BFG. Held his own very well and facing the same strikers that put five past you must not have been easy psychologically for him. 7

KOSCIELNY: yet again, Laurent makes me proud. I am confident to say that Koscienly is the best man marker in Europe. He might not be as intelligent like Per, but he has strength, zeal and awesome fitness, he is not afraid to go into any tackle; maybe he might have been a rugby player if he wasn’t in football. 7.5

MONREAL: a better performance from Nacho, in fact his best since the Tottenham game in January. Did not make silly mistakes like he did in Anfield and had the luxury of having his midfielders coming back to help him a lot. 7

FLAMINI: in my article about the lessons we learnt from the loss to Liverpool, I stated that we missed Flamini and we saw why I said so. He might be the most creative center midfielder, but his combativeness and enthusiasm stands him out. Really worked hard in midfield and did not give Coutinho and co a lot of space to operate. 7.5

ARTETA: a professional performance from Mikel. Worked very hard alongside Flamini in Midfield, went forward on rare occasions, but made sure that the job was done at the back too. 7

PODOLSKI: great goal especially that it was with his right foot. Did well down the left flank and helped defensively too. Made an unnecessary challenge for the penalty, but in all did very well. 7.5

OZIL: did well against Man Utd, had another good performance today. Made a very sumptuous pass to the Ox in the run up to the second goal, had a great chance himself and surprisingly, tracked back a lot, especially in helping Monreal. 7

OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN: great showing from the young English man. Made the right wing his own, caused Cissokho a lot of problems and had a goal and an assist to his name, my vice man of the match. 8

SANOGO: I was very impressed with Yaya. I was skeptical when he made the starting lineup but he showed me why I was wrong. Did very well aerially and was not intimidated by Skrtel and Agger. Still has a lot of work to do but from what he did today, he surely has the potential and he is on the right track. 7

It’s not easy to beat a team that thrashed you a week ago so I give thumbs up to the boys. They did very well, worked hard for themselves, played as a team and at the end, celebrated as a team. This surely a great way to enter into the big game against Bayern Munich, but in the meantime, we are one game away from going to Wembly.
